Discover the history of St Agnes Church, built in 1885 and its significance to the suburb of Grange.

Join with church and Henley & Grange Historical Society members at St Agnes Anglican Church, (named after Saint Agnes, a teenage girl who was martyred under Roman rule around 300AD).

Historically, the church is significant as the first Anglican church built in Grange and reflects the importance placed on religious activities by the residents of Grange and the expansion and growth of the Anglican Church in South Australia. Architecturally, the building is significant as being the work of noted Adelaide architects Withall and Wells, designed to emulate an English ‘village’ church. At the time of construction, the surrounding area would have been described as a ‘village’, with a relatively small population. The church was therefore a dominant element in this context. The stained glass windows represent the works of three studios and represent stylistic and technical developments in ecclesiastical stained glass over a period of time.

The afternoon starts at 2pm with a short talk about the history of the church and its stained glass windows. Pipe organ music and complimentary afternoon tea included.
