We are delighted to welcome the Mayor of the City of Charles Sturt, Angela Evans, as guest speaker at the Henley & Grange Historical Society’s March General Meeting. The Mayor will speak on the Council’s role in supporting local heritage and history.

Angela was elected as a Councillor in the City of Charles Sturt in 2006 to 2014 and then elected as Mayor in November 2014, a position she will hold until 2026. During her tenure, she has overseen significant redevelopment projects including the Henley Square Precinct, the $110 million Port Road Drainage Project, and the delivery of two integrated community centre and library facilities at Ngutungka West Lakes and Ngutungka Henley.

Demonstrating her commitment to sustainability, she’s led Council through the 2019 Declaration of a Climate Emergency and Climate Change Response Plan (2024-2034) to guide efforts to mitigate climate risks and adapt to environmental changes. Other initiatives include the establishment of the joint Materials Recovery Facility alongside the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, the transition of Council-owned buildings to solar, and the introduction of the community renewables program, providing residents with sustainable options for the future.

Angela’s committee involvement is vast, including roles on the Gender Matters Panel, the Greater Adelaide Region Organisation of Councils, the Central Adelaide Waste and Recycling Authority and the Climate Emergency Australia Strategic Advisory Group. She was also the President of the Local Government Association (LGA) of South Australia from 2020-2022.

Angela currently serves on the Premier’s Climate Change Council and the Green Adelaide board. She was awarded the 2023 Joy Baluch Award celebrating women making a positive difference in their council and community.

We warmly invite you to attend this engaging and informative presentation.
